Toronto, Canada –DIScONNECT™ Fashion Film Festival (DFFF8) opens Toronto’s World MasterCard® Fashion Week SS16 Calendar on October 19th at the TIFF Bell Lightbox.

This season’s theme of POP!enomics™ will widely interpret ‘popularity’ as a commodity, determining the valuation of individual self-worth, and how it can often be measured by material goods.

The first of its kind in Canada to support professional fashion film on this scale, the DIScONNECT™ Fashion Film Festival provides an artistic platform for a carefully curated roster of renowned international filmmakers.

DFFF8 will showcase the work of notable filmmakers from Germany, the United Kingdom, France, the United States, and Canada. The impressive round up of filmmakers includes Zaiba Jabbar, Adam Beck, Gabriel Gettman, The Levett Brothers, Saty + Pratha, REED + RADAR, Kathryn Ferguson, GhostProm, Eva Michon, Marie Schuller, Justin Anderson, Monica Menez, Victor Claramount, and Mat Maitland.

“At last, the two most glamorous businesses on earth combine in one brilliant festival”, says Richard Stursberg of the event. The Canadian media executive and author will bring his 30 years of media and broadcast experience to moderate an industry panel discussion following the screening. Featured panelists include Robin Kay, President of the Fashion Design Council of Canada and Randi Bergman from Fashion Magazine.

As part of a collaborative partnership with FASHION Magazine, Executive Digital Editor Randi Bergman will announce the “Best DIScONNECT™ Fashion Film” at FASHION‘s Toronto Fashion Week Awards on October 23rd, 2015. DFFF8’s panelists will nominate the top three filmmakers and the winner will be chosen via an online voting process on fashionmagazine.com. Guests of the Awards will experience a DIScONNECT™ screening installation at the event.

THE COLLECTIONS™ will celebrate the festival’s 8th season on October 19th at an invitation-only event at the newly opened Toronto restaurant FIGO.
