REEF Goes Coast to Coast In “Common Ground”

We are so excited to be working with one of our longtime favourite lifestyle brands, Reef. Combining our love of travel, outdoor activities and easy going everyday wear, Reef has developed an incredible film featuring four of Canada’s top surfing talents as they explore our country’s beaches from Halifax to British Columbia.

Canada is not typically known as a surfing destination and ambassadors Pete Devries, Michael Darling, Logan Landry and Shannon Brown come together to explore and uncover our underrated coastlines in Common Ground.

“It was so fun to explore the east and west of Canada with the boys”, says Pete Devries. “The contrast of waves and temperatures made for two very different experiences. The east was full of long rippable waves, subzero temperatures and falling snow. The west was all about pouring rain, quick mixed up beach break and green rain forests.  I’m happy to call the west coast home but I am definitely a little jealous of some of their setups.”

With Reef Ambassadors living on both coasts of Canada, Reef exposes the exploration of Canada’s underrated coastlines.  Canada is a big and vast territory, not typically pinned as a surf destination, but the uncrowded waves and jaw-dropping backdrops are integrated into the adventure, and are the reward of diving into cold water.  “Common Ground” features different walks of life, coming together on their journey of Just Passing Through. From Eastern Canada, Nova Scotia to Tofino, British Colombia, Pete, Michael, Logan and Shannon embark on the search of waves in some of the most remote places in Canada.

“I’ve surfed in the snow in Tofino once or twice, in winter we’re out there in our 5 mm, we have our hoods up on most rainy days” says Shannon Brown. “The second I paddled out in Nova Scotia I realized I’d had it easy.  It made for the most unique experience I’ve ever had. I’ve never seen a forecast that says temp -3 °C , wind chill -20 °C and I’ve definitely never walked across a frozen pond to get to the surf.“”

“Common Ground” was filmed and edit by the talented Adam Chilton. “Adam’s amazing style and technique has really come to the forefront with this project” says Pete Devries.  “I hope everyone likes the finished project as much as I do. It’s great to have such a rad team of guys representing Reef in Canada and to bring everyone together to make a true Canadian surf film has been a blast.”
