Renova Embraces Love at Scotiabank Nuit Blanche, 2015
European brand Renova will partner with Toronto’s George Brown College on third interactive, multimedia project, Lovers of the River Almonda

TORONTO, ON – For its third consecutive year, Renova will present a larger than life art installation as part of Toronto’s all night celebration of contemporary art, Scotiabank Nuit Blanche, produced by the City of Toronto on October 3, 2015.

The Lovers of the River Almonda is a multimedia, interactive and participatory piece commissioned by world renowned paper brand Renova, whose headquarters are located by the River Almonda in Torres Novas, Portugal. It is designed and created by Luigi Ferrara, Dean of the Centre for Arts & Design at George Brown College, in collaboration Voitek Pendrak, a Toronto based photographer and videographer.

Couples that visit Lovers of the River Almonda will be invited to partake in a five minute experience, that will not only be shared with onlookers at Nuit Blanche, but online and through social media, in an effort to encourage the public to be bold, and expressive in everything they do.

Those who take part will pose for a photograph by an artificial tableau of the River Almonda, which is created completely of Renova tissues. Participants submit key information about their partner, which will be used to generate a customized love poem that is combined with their photograph and projected in a multimedia format.

“Renova’s main factory in Torres Novas, Portugal sits on the River Almonda, and its waters and current is really the lifeblood of the company. Not only is it beautiful, but without it we would not be where we are today, which can also be said for love,” said CEO of Renova, Paulo Pereira da Silva. “We’re an out-of-the-box brand, and those that use our products have to really commit to expressing themselves, which is why this piece created by Luigi makes so much sense.”

Luigi Ferrara is The Lovers of the River Almonda’s lead artist. He and his team of art students will bring to life an interactive exhibit that will showcase the “infinite risk of love” that is constantly presented humanity.

Lovers of the River Almonda is an exciting, and emotional project, because it represents the vulnerability one must have to express their love. It was Renova’s deep connection with the river, and a personal drawing I created years ago of my wife and I sitting on a riverbank, that truly inspired this piece,” said Luigi Ferrara, Dean, Centre for Arts & Design, George Brown. “I’m sure the couples that take part will walk away with a rejuvenated sense of love for one another, and feel proud about their bold choice to express it.”

Visitors are able to participate during the event on October 3, and after Scotiabank Nuit Blanche–the shared fragments of the work spread its impact and experience beyond the timeframe of the event.

Location at Scotiabank Nuit Blanche, Toronto:
